SHIRLEY - Suzanne Claire (Larson) Ponkala, 64, passed away Feb. 13, 2013, with her loving family by her side after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born Jan. 22, 1949, in Greenville, a daughter of John L. and Caroline (Diehl) Larson.

Suzanne graduated from Greenville High School, class of 1967. She then went on to Northern Maine Vocational Technical Institute where she met her devoted husband, John. They celebrated 41 years of marriage in August 2012. Suzanne was a manager at McDonald's for 17 years. Suzanne's favorite past time was spending time with her family. They enjoyed many Disney vacations in Florida and the annual camping trip to the Lobster Festival in Rockland. Her "pride and joy" was her grandson, John Thomas, who lovingly called her "Meme," and spending time with him was one of her greatest pleasures.

She is survived by her husband, John of Shirley; three daughters, Erica Bary and husband, Frank, of Pittsfield, Heather Holmes and husband, Nathan, of Hudson, and Laura Witherly and husband, Jason, of Glenburn; one grandson, John Thomas; sister, Linda Carpenter and husband, Wayne, of Greenville; brother, John Larson and wife, Judy, of Winslow; as well as many nieces, nephews and special friends. She was predeceased by her parents; and sister, Caroline.

Friends and family may visit 6-8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 18, at the Greenville Chapel of Crosby & Neal, located at the Masonic building, where a celebration of Suzanne's life will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, with Pastor Marilyn Rohdin officiating. Spring burial will be at Lake Road Cemetery, Monson. For an online guest register, go to
