WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. - Ruth J. Lovering, 98, widow of Warren N. Lovering, O.D., died early Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, from complications of influenza at Riverview Medical Center, Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. Ruth was born June 18, 1914, in Bangor, daughter of William S. and Victoria (Pilkey) McKinnon.

In late 2002, she moved to Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., the home of her daughter, Victoria and son-in-law, David Henke. She attended Bangor schools, graduating from Bangor High School in 1931 and Maine School of Commerce, now Husson College, in 1933. Ruth taught two summer courses in shorthand and typing under Franklin D. Roosevelt's ERA program to help needy girls obtain jobs. From 1955-1971, she was employed as a secretary at Dow Air Force Base, Bangor. When the base closed, she worked for Soil Conservation Service USDA, as a secretary, retiring in 1979. Ruth was a past member of the YMCA and an active member of National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Bangor Chapter No. 0485.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Victoria and husband, David Henke, of Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Harriet and husband, Arthur Tilley Sr., of Bangor; three nephews and their families; one sister-in-law, Beverly McKinnon, widow of Donald W. McKinnon; one niece and her family. She was predeceased by her husband, parents, brother, sister and a nephew.
There will be no service or visitation at her request. Funeral arrangements will be handled by Herman-Taylor Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., and Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, Bangor.
