HUDSON, N.H. - Roberta "Bert" Whitten, 80, passed away peacefully Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012, surrounded by her loving family at St. Joseph Hospital, Nashua, N.H. She was born Oct. 4, 1932, in Caribou, daughter of the late Ralph and Meta (Powell) Smith.

Bert loved shopping and taking rides in the woods. She enjoyed fishing and winning while playing cards. Her greatest joy was found when spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, Bert was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence Whitten, in 2006; a son, Peter Whitten, in 1980; a daughter, Kristi Whitten, in 1973; and two brothers, James Smith and Richard Powell.

Survivors include four sons, Robert Whitten and his wife, Terry, of Litchfield, N.H., Scott Whitten and his wife, Louise, of Londonderry, N.H., Mark Whitten and his fiancee, Susanna Casey, of West Townsend, Mass., and Chuck Whitten and his significant other, Kristen Dziegiel, of Hudson; two daughters, Lori Lambert and her husband, Robert, of Hudson, N.H., and Ann Tierney and her husband, Pete, of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; as well as eight grandchildren, Nick, Brooke, Blair, Alexandra, Paige, Victoria, Zachary and Cody; as well as by a sister, Jackie Aucoin of Caribou; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

After cremation, a celebration of Bert's life will take place this summer. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bert's loving memory to Aroostook Area Agency On Aging, care of Nutrition Program, P.O. Box 1288, Presque Isle, ME 04769.
