CALAIS - Robert F. Butler Sr., 77, died May 16, 2012, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Feb. 21, 1935, in Mattawamkeag, son of Charles and Martha (Matterson) Butler. Bob served in the U.S. Air Force, and was an avid outdoorsmen, fisherman, hunter and Red Sox fan. He played baseball until he was 35 with the Mattawamkeag semi-pro baseball team. Bob was a self-employed logging contractor for more than 50 years. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Alice (Gifford) Butler of Calais; son and wife, Robert F. Butler Jr. and Alison of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; daughter and husband, Ann and Gary Coltart of St. Augustine, Fla.; two sisters, Ruthe Bantle of Orono and Agnes Cantara of Howland; one granddaughter and husband, Shandy and Matthew Schroder of Bangor; one great-grandson, Robert Schroder; several nieces and nephews; and his special pet friend, Prince. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Eugene Butler; and sister, Margaret Coombs. A celebration of life will be held noon-4 p.m. Saturday, May 26, at Bob's home in Calais.
