BANGOR - Robert E. "Bob" Lyford Sr., 76, died April 29, 2012, at a Bangor hospital. He was born June 3, 1935, in Orneville, the son of Frank M. Sr. and Ruth (Herbest) Lyford. Robert, or "Bobby Blue Eyes" as he was known to some of his military colleagues, joined the U.S. Air Force after high school and retired from the Maine Air National Guard after a total of 38 years of military service. Bob was a member of Bradford Baptist Church, Bangor Elks Lodge, Brewer Eagles Club, American Legion in Milo and bowled for many years at Bangor-Brewer Bowling Lanes, where he has many special friends. He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting and fishing. He will be greatly missed by his daughter, Nancy of Hermon, who has been by his side and cared for him; and two of his grandsons, Christopher and Dillon Goforth, with whom he was especially close and were there to help him whenever needed. A special thank you to Nancy's fiance Bruce Carle, for all he has done during the past few years. In addition to his daughter, he is also survived by four other children, Robert Lyford Sr. and his wife, Jody, of Stetson, David Lyford and his wife, Darlene, of Newport, Belinda Lyford and Bob Ellis of Ellsworth and Jennifer Roy and her husband, Michael, of Bangor; nine grandchildren including his two grandsons, five great-grandchildren and happily expecting three more this summer; brothers and sisters, Gertrude Hunt of Bangor, Frank Lyford Jr. of Lagrange, Newell Lyford of Hudson, Linda Thompson and her husband, Durwood, of Charleston and Brenda Bowden, also of Charleston; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; a daughter, Anna Mae; and a sister, Elba Cottrell. Family and friends may visit 4-6 p.m. Friday, May 4, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor, where a service honoring Robert's life will be held 6 p.m. as the visitation concludes with Pastor Donald Booker presiding. Burial with military honors will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, May 6, at Evergreen Cemetery, Milo, with a time of fellowship and refreshments to be held immediately afterward at Bradford Baptist Church.
