WATERVILLE - Richard "Dick" Pellerin died April 27, 2012, on his 55th wedding anniversary. He was born Aug. 30, 1933, in Waterville, the second son of Frank and Yvonne Bureau Pellerin. Educated in Waterville and Fairfield, he graduated from Lawrence High School in 1950 and Southern Maine Vocational School, majoring in heating and air conditioning in 1959. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1953 to 1957 aboard the cutter Barataria. He worked for Clark & Company for many years, retiring from Houle's Plumbing and Heating in 1995. Dick's hobbies were downhill skiing, snowmobiling, water-skiing, summering at McGrath Pond in Belgrade, swimming laps every morning at the Holiday Inn in Waterville, Hospice, Les Bavards/Franco/American and American Legion Post 5. Richard was predeceased by his parents; his son, Frank who died at age 5 in 1966; a daughter, Ann who died at birth in 1965; and three brothers, Ron, Buzzy and Jim. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Lewis Pellerin, whom he married April 27, 1957; a son, Richard "Rick" Jr. and his wife, Karlene, of Sangerville; grandsons, Frank of Portland and Richard III of Maryland; stepgrandson, James Oldfield and wife, Heather, of Old Lyme, Conn.; one brother, Roger and wife, Jeanne, of New York; sister, Nancy Foster and husband, Herb, of Waterville; two very special godchildren, Jim Tracy of Sidney and Danielle Pellerin Boutin of Fairfield Center; and special friends, Charlie and Dot Dolham. There will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday, May 3, at Notre Dame Church, 112 Silver St., Waterville. After the service all are invited to a gathering for remembrance at Bourque-Lanigan Post 5 American Legion, 21 College Ave., Waterville. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to V.A.V.S. Hospice Unit, Voluntary Services 135, Department of Veterans Affairs, 1 VA Center, Augusta, ME 04330. Arrangements are with Gallant Funeral Home, 10 Elm St., Waterville. An online guest book may be signed and condolences may be expressed at www.gallantfh.com.
