BANGOR - Ralph Martin Ireland, 60, died August 22, 2014, at a Bangor Hospital, surrounded by his close family. He was born March 17, 1954, in Bar Harbor, the son of Connie (Ireland) Newman and Roy Ireland.
The Guest Book is expired.
He was a graduate of Bangor High School where he participated in baseball, basketball and football. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed playing baseball, basketball, and golf during his early years. Later he was known as an obsessive Boston Red Sox fan along with his impassioned following of the New England Patriots football. Ralph was an excellent chef and short order cook and held many positions in restaurants including one as a singing waiter. He loved to cook for his friends and family and took great pride in providing meals for them.
However, all who knew Ralph understood that his true love was the water. Ralph worked his way up through the commercial fishing ranks and eventually earned his captains license while working off the coast of Virginia Beach, VA. During his time fishing, he caught state record speckled trout, and many citation fish from deep water monk fish to bluefish. Ralph also would come back home to Maine every year and spend days trolling and catching some of the largest brook trout any of us had ever seen.
Following his commercial fishing career, he was self-employed in the construction industry specializing in hotel construction, renovations and remodeling, traveling all over the country.
He is survived by many loving family members: his mother, Connie Newman; Husband Harold, father, Leroy Ireland; sister, Shelley Lewis; brother, Sean Ireland and wife, Julie; brother, Keven Ireland and wife, Jennifer; three children, Casey Ireland and his wife, Jennifer, Mayme Ireland and Heather Spalenka; closest friend/brother, Mike Vail and wife, Vicki; and very special friend, Barbara Ude. During the last few years, Ralph had become incredibly close to his brother, Keven and sister-in-law, Jennifer. They meant the world to him and helped take care of him during his final days, with support from the rest of the family.
A private celebration of Ralph's life will be held at a later date with immediate family only. The family asks that memorial contributions be sent in Ralph's memory to
