CARIBOU and GOLDSBORO, N.C. - Phillis Mary Corrow, 83, passed away May 23, 2012, at Countryside Village - Alzheimer's & Memory Care, Pikeville, N.C. Phillis was born Oct. 31, 1928, in Caribou, the daughter of the late Charles and Eva (Martin) Babin. She was educated in Caribou public schools. Phillis worked as a sales clerk for JC Penney, Caribou, for more than 30 years. She also worked part time as a waitress at Caribou Hotel and was active in Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary. After retiring from JC Penney, Phillis moved to Pinellas Park, Fla., where she lived for 10 years before moving to North Carolina to be close to her daughter, Judy. Phillis will long be remembered for her caring and generous nature. She was always willing to lend a helping hand to friends, neighbors and family. She enjoyed cooking, bowling, gardening, playing cards, country music and dancing. Phillis was predeceased by her parents; her two sisters, Virginia Gillingham Anderson and Mary Gahagan; her four brothers, Almond, Charles, Freeland and Wilber; her first husband, David L. Johnson; and later second husband, Jasper Corrow. She is survived by three daughters, Judy DePalantino and husband, Joseph, of Goldsboro, N.C., Verna Johnson of Caribou and Naida Johnson and husband, Victor Gartner, of Gardner, Mass.; son, Melvin Johnson and wife, Alla, of Wells; six grandchildren, Melissa Brady and husband, Richie, Sheryl VanHorn and husband, Adam, Ben, Natalie, Aleksander and Sophie Johnson; three great-grandchildren, Ian Brady, Caden and Ella VanHorn; her three brothers, Roland Babin and wife, Linda, of Caribou and Punta Gorda, Fla., Donald Babin of Unity and Frank Babin and his wife, Rita, of West Boxford, Mass.; along with numerous nieces and nephews; special adopted daughter, Linda Babb of Johnson City, Tenn.; and many, many friends. Phillis' family expresses a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Countryside Village for their care and support to Phillis and her family while she was there. Cremation will take place in North Carolina, and Mrs. Corrow's ashes will be returned to Caribou to be buried in the family plot at Holy Rosary Cemetery. Service time and place to be announced by Mockler Funeral Home, Caribou.
