NAPLES, FLA., CHEVY CHASE, MD., AND CASTINE - Philip S. Day, died unexpectedly Nov. 21, 2012. He was born Oct. 5, 1933, in Harrisburg, Pa.

He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph P. Day, Pauline L. Day; sister, Mary Anne Knuble; and brother, Joseph P. Day Jr. He is survived by his siblings, Barbara Ann Murphy of Naples, Fla., James M. Day and his wife, Leila B. Day, of Castine, and Dennis O. Day of Trenton.

He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Bowdoin College, Bruns-wick, in 1955 and received his law degree from St. Mary's University School of Law, San Antonio. Throughout a period of five years he traveled throughout Europe attending the universities of Heidelberg, Madrid and the Sorbonne in Paris, studying languages and comparative law. Returning to the U.S. in 1964, he worked for IBM and for the international law firm, Baker and MacKenzie in Washington, D.C. In 1968, he began his own law practice in Washington, D.C, retiring in 1993. He loved to travel and did so extensively. Tennis was a passion and through the sport he made many lasting friendships. Philip will always be remembered by his smile and his wonderful laugh and he could liven any conversation through the use of one of the four languages he spoke fluently. He had a very strong bond to each of his siblings and cousins and always carried with him those life lessons learned in South Brewer.

Visiting hours will be 2-4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, at Joseph Gawler & Sons, 5130 Wisconsin Ave. NW, Washington, D.C. Interment will be in Maine with a memorial service to be held early summer 2013 in Castine. For those who wish to make donations, the family suggests that donations be made in Philip's name to a chapter of in your area.
