MEDWAY - Owen "Snowball" Everett McLaughlin, 79, husband of Mildred (Tweedie) Lane McLaughlin, passed away Aug. 3, 2012, at his home. He was born May 1, 1933, in Medway, the son of Everett and Beatrice (Stanley) McLaughlin.

Snowball served in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean War. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Occupied Medal Germany and National Defense Service Medal. He retired from Great Northern Paper Co. at age 52 after 30 years of service. He then worked all over the state of Maine working on turbines. He was a life member of the Carpenters Union, Disabled American Veterans, Medway; Veterans of Foreign Wars, Millinocket; and a 12-year member of the board of Retirees of Nesourdehunk. More recently, he worked for approximately 11 years at Medway Transfer Station. Owen enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially with Tashy.

In addition to his wife of 38 years, Mildred, whom he married Dec. 14, 1974, he is survived by five children, Norma Jean Thompson and her husband, Jack, Louise Eubank, Michael Lane and his wife, Caroline, Kenneth Lane and his wife, Jo Ann, and Norman "Blackie" Lane and his wife, Robin; 14 grandchildren, Karri Jo, Troy, Lacey, Keith, Michelle, Tara, Raquel, Jessica, Aaron, Jessica, Dustin, Kira, Ian and Robert; 22 great-grandchildren; six sisters, Sheila, Virginia, Beverly, Ruth, Gloria and Myrna; two brothers, Leon and Earl; two aunts, Clara and Norma; an uncle, Tashy Stanley; many nieces, nephews and cousins, including a special nephew, Carl Stanley Jr.; and many friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Carl Stanley.

Friends may call 2-4 p.m. Tuesday at Calvary Temple Assembly of God, 2 Orchard St., East Millinocket, where funeral services will be held 4 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Regginal Adams officiating. Interment with full military honors will be at Grindstone Road Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Millinocket VFW post.
