CUMBERLAND, R.I., and BANGOR - Norma M. Bishop, 83, formerly of Cumberland, R.I., and Bangor, passed away Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012, at Mount St. Rita Health Center, Cumberland, R.I. She was the beloved wife of the late George A. Bishop. Born in Central Falls, R.I., she was the daughter of the late Norman and Roby (Balkom) Scally.
She had lived in Cumberland, R.I., for many years before moving to Maine in 1974, where she lived for 38 years until returning to Rhode Island in 2011. She was employed as a secretary by the former Standard Nut & Bolt Co., Cumberland, R.I., for many years. Norma enjoyed and devoted her time to the family. She was also a former member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Cumberland, R.I., and St. John's Episcopal Church, Bangor. She and her late husband loved to travel.
Mrs. Bishop leaves four children, Susan Kolonick and husband, Peter, of Cumberland, R.I., Valerie
Colsant and husband, Joseph, of Murrieta, Calif., Lisa Lavoie and husband, Kirk, of San Clemente, Calif., and George Bishop and wife, Linda, of Clifton; grandchildren, Peter and Joshua Kolonick, Janessa Bishop and Justin Burgess; and great-grandchildren, Rylee Coppinger and Aidan Burgess.
Calling hours are respectfully omitted. A celebration of her life with services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 120 Nate Whipple Highway, Cumberland, R.I. Burial will be after at Diamond Hill Cemetery, Cumberland, R.I. For directions and guest book, please visit
