LINCOLN - Nicholas Donald Haynes, 19, died Saturday, August 23, 2014, as a result of an automobile accident. He was born January 13, 1995, in Lincoln, the son of Penny (Pelkey) and Michael Haynes. He was a recent graduate of Mattanawcook Academy, where he was a great athlete. He was very proud to wear a Lynx jersey. He excelled at basketball and was honored to be chosen as co-captain along with being selected to the Senior All-Star Team. Nick was a super guy. He followed his mother's passion for cooking and got many compliments about his culinary creations. He thoroughly enjoyed his job at The Timberhouse Restaurant, and hoped to pursue a career in the culinary arts. In addition to his parents, Michael Haynes, of Houlton and Penny Pelkey Haynes, of Lincoln and her significant other, Wayne Archie; brothers, Jeremy Pelkey and Joshua Haynes, of Lincoln; a sister, Samantha Haynes, and her children, Lilly and Brantley, of Glenburn; maternal grandparents, Richard and Mary Pelkey; paternal grandfather, Donald Haynes; several aunts, uncles and cousins; Nick will be missed by a large family who loved him dearly, and many friends he made along the way, including his longtime best friend, James Washington. He also leaves his cat, "Kitty" and dog, "Buddy". He was predeceased by his paternal grandmother, Susanne Hanson. A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. Wednesday, August 27, at the Mattanawcook Academy gymnasium with Bill Chesley officiating.
