SANGERVILLE - Neal W. Davis, 89, passed away Sept. 22, 2012, at Dexter Health Care. He was born Aug. 24, 1923, in Newport, the son of George and Viola (Watson) Davis.
The Guest Book is expired.
He served in World War II in the European Theatre as a forward observer for an artillery unit of the U.S. Army's Acorn Division. Neal married Kathleen "Kay" White, July 29, 1945. He worked at Norwock Shoe, Skowhegan, and later transferred to Dexter Shoe, Dexter. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and especially loved his summers at his camp on Moose Pond in Hartland. Neal loved children. Nothing put a smile on his face quicker than a baby. Kay surprised him with his first snowmobile in the early '70s. Neal got the "bug" and was an avid snowmobiler well into his 70s. During the summer he delighted in catching the occasional aroma of snowmobiling coming from his stored winter clothing. Kay predeceased Neal in 1994, a few months shy of their 50th wedding anniversary. Neal married Lena Varnum in 1996. Whether they were traveling across the United States, taking day trips or playing Skip-Bo, Neal and Lena thoroughly enjoyed each other's company.
Neal is survived by his wife, Lena; his son, Colan and his wife, Jayne Davis, of Holden; Lena's daughters and their husbands, Sharon and Scott Carr of Athens, and Linda and Brian Brooker of Sangerville; grandchildren, Kellianne Steeves, Tamralynn Gilman and Summer Andrews, Randy Brooker, Goldie Chase, and Jimmy and Kenny Hesselbrock; and four great-grandchildren. Neal was predeceased by two sons, Michael and Neal; two daughters, Lynn Fotter and Lorraine Bagley; a brother, Elliot Davis; and two sisters, Maureen Cianchette and Mary Lou Grass. The family thanks Dexter Health Care for his loving care.
Private graveside services will be held at Village Cemetery, Pittsfield. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal, Guilford. For an online guest register, go to www.CrosbyNeal.com.
