BANGOR and OLD ORCHARD BEACH - Nancy Silver Offenberg, adored mother, daughter, wife, sister, bubbie, aunt and family matriarch, died Dec. 28, 2012, surrounded by family and enveloped in love. Mrs. Offenberg was born in Boston to George and Bobbie Silver.
Mrs. Offenberg was a graduate of Bangor High and Boston University. She was the widow of her beloved husband, Al. Mrs. Offenberg was a lifelong member of the Bangor community. She was an inspiring teacher, president of B'Nai Brith, and a member of the Chevra Kaddishah, Beth Abraham Sisterhood, and Eastern Star.
Mrs. Offenberg loved laughter, mahjong, Scrabble, Jeopardy, summers in Old Orchard Beach, a delicious meal, a good bargain, and above all, being with family. She was powerfully loving, supremely inclusive and unfailingly generous.
Mrs. Offenberg leaves behind her three cherished children and their spouses, Barney Offenberg and Annie of Jacksonville, Fla., Sharon Shore and Howard of Stoughton, Mass., and Wendy Cohen and Wayne of Charlotte, N.C.; seven grandchildren, Jamie, Joseph and Jacob Offenberg, Corey and Ross Shore, Samuel and Mick Cohen; great-grandson, Peyton Mann; three sisters, Joyce Willig and Robert of Florida, Bonnie Silver and Kent of Arizona and Janie Silver of Bangor; nieces, nephews, and scores of extended family members and friends who are grateful to have known and loved her.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 30, at the Jewish Funeral Chapel, 118 Center St., Bangor. Memorial Week will begin Sunday evening at the home of Janie Silver. A service of Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor.
