FREEPORT - Michael Lynn Kennedy, 68, a longtime resident of Pleasant Hill Road, passed away Jan. 22, 2013, after a brave battle with cancer. He was born July 9, 1944, in Old Town, a son of Ernest Daniel and Effie May (Drake) Kennedy, and grew up in Greenbush.

He graduated in 1961 from Lee Academy High School, Lee, where he met and married his beautiful soul mate, Cynthia Jane Ringrose. Michael was skilled at carpentry, which was his first job. After 35 years of working as dispatcher and trip supervisor for Greyhound Bus Co. and later, MaineLine Tours, he changed careers to take over a wholesale clamming business until his retirement in 2009. A lifelong hunter and fisherman, he especially enjoyed his trips to Northern Maine near St. Pamphile, Quebec, where he and a group of friends known as the "Red Camp Association" have a renovated logging camp as base for their outdoors adventures and special camaraderie that has been on-going since the early 1980s. Returning from camp, Michael enjoyed telling stories to his family of the game and scenery he had experienced in his beloved vacationland. It was after returning from his latest trip this past fall that he learned of his health challenges and took on this new battle with dignity, strength and the will power of a true huntsman. He continued the fight with humor and love, and leaves his family with some very fond memories.

Michael is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Cynthia (Ringrose) Kennedy of Freeport; his children, Melanie Connor and her spouse, Ann Marie, Patty Kennedy and her partner, Mike Hill, Cheryl Kennedy and her partner, Melodie Bowden, Jennifer Turner and her spouse, Matt, all of Freeport; 10 grandchildren, Michael Bailey and his spouse, Allison, Deanna and Kenneth Connor, Thomas, Steven and Matthew Schultheis, Megan Chaney, Shane and Sierra Ryan, and Traci Turner; one great-grandson, Colby Ryan; one brother, Barry Kennedy and his spouse, Star; one sister, Lorraine Laliberte and her spouse, Adrian; two brothers-in-law, Gordon Ringrose and his spouse, Jane, and Larry Ringrose and his spouse, Donna; several nieces and nephews, and many special friends.

Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Michael's life 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at First Parish Congregational Church, 40 Main St., Freeport. Reception will take place in the parish hall after the service. Contributions in his memory may be sent to The Red Camp Association, care of Jay Jordan, 55 Cemetery Road, Buxton, ME 04093.
