GREENVILLE - Merton W. Carr, 78, died April 19, 2013, at C.A. Dean Hospital, Greenville, surrounded by his family. He was born Sept. 26, 1934, in Abbot, the son of Clifton and Florence (Glidden) Carr.

He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps., during the Korean conflict. He worked as a logger and later as a caretaker in the Falmouth area for many years.

He was predeceased by his wife, Gertrude (Blethen) Carr; five brothers, all of whom also served in the military; one sister; and two sons, Randall and Rexford. He is survived by three loving daughters, Teresa and husband, Chuck Talbot, Cheri and husband, Randy Wentworth, all of Abbot and Roxanne Holmbom of Greenville; six grandchildren, Joshua, Lucas and wife, Kati, Melissa, Stephanie, Hannah and Allyson; seven great-grandchildren, Hannah, Dylan, Gabe, Gracie, Beau, Makayla and Jaydon; several nieces and nephews; and he also leaves behind a special friend, his dog, Murphy.

A memorial graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, May 18, at Abbot Village Cemetery, Main Road, Abbot, with Pastor Ray Beless officiating. Cremation arrangements by Crosby & Neal, Guilford. For an online guest register go to www.CrosbyNeal.com.
