PORT CLYDE - Mary Joan Hall, 80, died in her sleep Dec. 15, 2012, at Full Circle Farm, Union. She was born in Beijing in 1932, the daughter of Foreign Service Consul Monroe B. Hall and Mary Smedberg Hall.

She is survived her brother, Monroe B. "Mike" Hall of Belfast; nephews, Monroe B. Hall III, Mark D. Hall and Matthew R. Hall; and a niece, Melissa W. Hall/Moore. The family is very grateful to Monroe B. Hall III for being her helpmate and caregiver for the past few years.
Mary Joan graduated from Barnard College in New York and Pratt Institute, with a degree in library science. She then worked as librarian at the Guggenheim Museum in New York for the next 20 years. She bought her dream house on the water near Port Clyde in the early '80s and spent the years remaining to her as a volunteer at Pen Bay Hospital, Marshall Point Lighthouse and Lyman Pope Animal Shelter. She was always giving to good causes.
In the final chapters of her life, she donated her body to science through the anatomical donor program of the University of New England. She will be well remembered and sadly missed by her many friends and relatives.
