Mark attended Brewer High School, served in the U.S. Army from 1971 to 1974, and worked at Eastern Fine Paper for 36 years until it closed its doors. He was most recently employed at Dead River, Bucksport, at a job he truly loved, with people he enjoyed immensely. Those who knew him knew that Mark's place to find serenity was on Moosehead Lake, simply fishing. It was his favorite thing to do with his wife, Ginny, his girls, his friends or just his dog, Bear. Being at camp was heaven to him.
Mark is survived by his wife, Ginnie; daughter, Tammy; stepdaughters, Robin and Jackie; his twins, Caity and Krissy; his mother, Jacqueline; his brothers, Eric and Ted; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, four nephews and many very special relatives and friends. Mark was predeceased by his father, Frederic; and his brother, Donnie. Throughout Mark's fight to beat cancer, Mark and Ginny felt truly blessed to work through the struggles associated with this terrible disease alongside the amazing and talented staff at the CancerCare of Maine. They are particularly thankful to Drs. Snyder and Rueter, and their incredible staff for their kind, compassionate care, not only for Mark, but also for Ginny and the girls. Without the love, support and kindness shown by their beloved extended family at Center Drive School, their family at Rocky Knoll Country Club and numerous unknown angels, "we never would have made it through."
In keeping with Mark's wishes, there will be no funeral services. A celebration of his life will be held 3-5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at Rocky Knoll Country Club, 94 River Road, Orrington. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory through the Dionne College Trust at Seaboard Federal Credit Union, P.O. Box G, 177 Main St., Bucksport, ME 04416. Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.BrookingsSmith.com.
