DAIGLE and BURLINGTON, Mass. - Marie R. Daigle, 98, died June 9, 2012, in Peabody, Mass.; her long life culminated with short illness. She was born Dec. 10, 1913, with her twin, Rosaire, in Daigle, to Vital and Modeste (Martin) Daigle. Marie left Daigle at 16 to earn her own way working in the homes of well-to-do Bostonians alongside her beloved older sister, Delina. Within a few years, Marie began her training as a licensed practical nurse at Shepard-Gill. She was a sought-after private duty nurse for newborns and their families. She ended her career caring for the elderly, retiring at age 75. For more than 30 years, her home on Oxbow Lane, Burlington, was fondly referred to as "Marie's Motel." She welcomed her large extended family with a smile, hug, home-cooked meal, Brigham's ice cream and a clean bed. Although she never wed, Marie was married to her family. She did so much for so many. Marie always and proudly introduced herself as Marie Daigle from Daigle, Maine. Dragging many a reluctant younger relative with her, she made frequent eight hour - one way - odysseys to Northern Maine to attend family gatherings in all types of weather well into her 80s. She was predeceased by her parents; her brothers, Alcide, Alex, Arthur, Lucien, Rosaire and Denis; and her sisters, Yvonne Michaud, Irene Pelletier and Delina Daigle. She is survived, admired and loved by many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews too numerous to name but none forgotten. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Monday and 8 a.m. until time of service Tuesday at Daigle Funeral Home, Fort Kent. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 12, at St. Louis Catholic Church, Fort Kent. Committal service will be afterward at Holy Family Cemetery, Daigle. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to New Canada Community Center, 1809 Caribou Road, New Canada, ME 04743.
