BANGOR - Louise M. Moreshead died Dec. 31, 2012, at a Bangor health care facility. She was born July 18, 1923, in Waterville, daughter of Ned and Lena (Jurdak) Nawfel.

She graduated from Waterville High School in 1941. Louise received her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Simmons College in 1946, and a master's degree in education from the University of Maine in 1983. She was elected to Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society at that time. Louise began working at Eastern Maine General Hospital in 1946 as a nursing arts instructor. After seven years she became assistant director of nursing services, then director of nursing for 25 years. She ended her career as assistant administrator for five years, retiring in 1986 after 40 years of dedicated service. During her time of as director of nursing, she initiated many nursing procedures, many of which are still being used today. Her favorite pastime was line dancing, at which she was very good. She enjoyed reading and watching T.V. Louise married Edmund Moreshead, in 1961. They had one son, Edmund Jr. She was especially proud of her son and two granddaughters.
She is survived by her husband, Edmund Sr.; son, Edmund Jr. and wife, Suzanne, of Carmel; two granddaughters, Sara and Molly Moreshead and their mother, Barbara Raymond, of Holden; nieces, Becky Lucas and husband, Dornan, of Winthrop and Debbie Dorr and husband, Alan, of Arkansas; and nephews, Timothy Breen and wife, Jane, of Grenwich, Conn., and Kenneth Nawfel and wife, Jean, of Fairfield. She was predeceased by her parents; brother, Charles "Chick" Nawfel and wife, Betty; and sisters, Rose George and husband, Lamer, Cleo Breen and husband, Harold, and Bessie DeBan and husband, James.
A memorial service will be held 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, at Apostolic Lighthouse Church, Hammond Street, Bangor, with the Rev. Charles Hurst, pastor, officiating. Interment will be at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta. A service of Memorial Alternatives, 205 Center St., Bangor.
