BANGOR - Laura W. Smith, 71, died unexpectedly Nov. 10, 2012, at her home. She was born April 11, 1941, in Howland, daughter of Wilbur and Gertrude (Leavitt) Smith.

Laura graduated from Brownville Junction High School, class of 1959, and Thayer Memorial Hospital, as a medical laboratory technician in 1960. She retired from Penobscot Nation Health Department as a lab technician, and her previous employment was with the Red Cross, St. Joseph's Hospital, Maine Medical Center and Millinocket Regional Hospital. Laura was known for her warm heart and great sense of humor.
Laura is survived by her sisters, Lorraine Fitzpatrick and husband, Martin, of Brownville Junction, and Janice Johnsen and husband, Elwood, of Portland, Ore.; nieces, Karen Roberts of Rockport, Texas, Laurie Priest and husband, Mark, of Alexandria, Va., and Stephanie Osborn and husband, Ken, of Park City, Utah; nephew, Martin E. Fitzpatrick of Elloittsville Township; great-nephews, Coburn Roberts, Ryan Roberts, Nick Johnsen, Christian Cadow, Liam Osborn and Claire Osborn; great friends, Sue Andrews, Bette Knight and Bonnie Marble; and cat, Abby. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by nephews, Dirk Johnsen and Shaine Roberts; and beloved cat, Dudley.
A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Carl Schreiber officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments after the service at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor.
