OLD TOWN - Karen Jean Parent, 67, died unexpectedly Dec. 27, 2012, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Aug. 15, 1945, in Lewiston, a daughter of Andrew and Hazel (Merrill) Paradis.

Karen was employed at Bangor Mental Health Institute for 26 years. She was an active member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary having served as president and secretary/treasurer. She was known for her cooking and enjoyed cooking for family gathering and Legion events. In her younger years she enjoyed fishing and camping.
She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Andre Parent of Old Town; three children, Barry Bard of Sidney, Kellie Gilbert and her husband, Rob, of Virginia and Gerard Bard and his wife, Elaine, of Bangor; 13 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; aunt, Louise Dyer, brother, Michael Paradis; close friend, Jeanne Dalrymple; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Dena Caron; and brothers, Kenneth and Gary Paradis.
Friends may visit 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town, where a funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday. Spring burial will be at Greenfield Cemetery. Notes of condolence may be left at www.birminghamfuneralhome.com.
