ELLSWORTH - John Jacob Astor Lindsey, 85, passed away March 20, 2013, at his home with his wife and family by his side. He was born Jan. 10, 1928, son of Byron and Vivian (Whalen) Lindsey.

John was a dedicated worker, wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was said by many to be the best heavy equipment operator around, always requested for special jobs. He worked construction for many years for Harold MacQuinn and Bill Peasley. In his early years he worked as a woodsman in mills around the state with horses, chainsaws and equipment. His greatest joy was spending time with his wife and family. He enjoyed his pets, bird watching, and operating his plow truck and grader. He loved country music, going dancing, and spending time at family gatherings with his large extended family. John was the last of his siblings. He was loved by all who knew him and will be sadly missed. We hope they have lots of good country music in heaven, John.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Virginia; daughters, Astor Gillis and husband, Robert, and Andra Farrell; son, Terry Lindsey; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Drew Church and partner, Christine, and their sons, Lucas and Logan, Darrin Church and partner, Wendy, and his children, Darrian and William, Lorna Chick and husband, Bruce, and their sons, Johnathan and Ethan, Janelle (Goodwin) Jones and husband, Carter, and their sons, David, Brian, Andrew and Cody, Melissa (Farrell) Wilmot and husband, Chad, and their children, Rhett and Reeve, and Shauna (Lindsey) Fowler-Hisler and husband, Raymond, and her son, Edward Fowler; great-great-grandson, Noah Fowler; stepgrandchildren, Lorrie (Farrell) Murphy, Stephen Brenton, Michelle (Brenton) Novak and John Gillis; several great-stepgrandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
