DEXTER & CORINNA - Joan E. Banks, 76, died August 9, 2014, at her home in Dexter. She was born in North Kingstown, RI, December 12, 1937, the daughter of Harry and Martha Northup.

Joan was a direct descendant of the Mayflower, and a member of the Rhode Island chapter of the D.A.R. She served in the US Navy and was a member of the WAVES Unit #41. While in the military, Joan was proud to have marched in President Eisenhower's Inaugural Parade. She was active in the Dexter Sunrise Kiwanis, managed the Kiwanis Thrift Store for a while, and helped with the reading program at the Dexter Primary School.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Frederick H. Banks of Dexter; a son, Richard J. Banks and his wife, Debbie of Dexter; a daughter, Judith E. Harding and her husband, Buzzy of Dexter; 6 grandchildren, Mindy and husband, Mike, Rachel, Michelle and husband, Aaron, and Michael and wife, Erika;,Melissa, and Jamie; 2 great grandchildren, Mikayla, and Hunter; a brother, Harry Northup and his wife, Kathleen of CT; nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 PM, Wednesday, August 13th at Crosby & Neal, 61 Main Street, Dexter. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Thursday, August 14th, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Essex Street in Bangor with the Rev. Elaine Hewes officiating, followed by a reception. A graveside committal service will be held 11 AM, Friday August 15th, at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Dexter.
