PLYMOUTH - James E. Ivory Jr., 73, died Monday, May 14, 2012, at a Bangor nursing home, after a long illness. He was born April 4, 1939, in Waterville, son of James and Bessie (Coventry) Ivory. He graduated from Waterville High School in 1957 and served in the U.S. Army until 1960. He had a successful career selling life insurance for John Hancock, Metropolitan, and Prudential Life Insurance companies. He was known by everyone for his sense of humor, quick wit and love of a good joke. Jim was a family man who loved to putter around the yard. He was fond of saying that his happiest days were when "the kids were young" and he could be outside with them on a beautiful summer day. Jim loved baseball, and managed to create a Yankee vs. Red Sox rivalry within his own family. He is survived by his loving wife, Jeanne of Newport; stepson, David Albert and fiancee, Theresa Grella, of Amherst, N.H.; sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas and Lori Ivory of East Falmouth, Mass., Jeffrey and Sheila Ivory of Cairo, Egypt, and James and Sabrina Ivory of Newport; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Richard Ade of Portsmouth, N.H.; brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Paula Ivory of Weymouth, Mass.; and sister-in-law, Barbara Ivory of North Attleboro, Mass. He was blessed to have shared loving times with nine grandchildren, Amey, Melanie, Justin, Shelby, Alyssa, Chase, Gabe, Vivian, Madison and Cole; three great-grandchildren, Rhyan, Xanthe and Camden; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by his brothers, Robert and Gregory Ivory; sister, Alvera Kneeland; and stepdaughter, Donna Turmelle. The Ivory's thank their "extended family" at Westgate Manor, Bangor, for their never-ending devotion, care and compassion for our beloved husband, father and friend. Friends may call noon-1 p.m. Friday, May 25, at Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Service Center, 34 High St., Newport, where memorial services will be conducted 1 p.m. with Pastor Raymond Drake officiating. Burial will be at Sawyer Cemetery Plymouth. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to be made directly, in memory of James Ivory to Westgate Manor Activity Fund, 750 Union St., Bangor, ME 04401.
