MARION, IND. - Irene L. (Waitt) Ivey, 96, died at 1:27 p.m. Friday, June 14, 2013, at Marion General Hospital, Marion, Ind. She was born Jan. 30, 1917, in Elmwood, New Brunswick, Canada, to the late Lawrence and Lillian (Coley) Waitt.

Irene became a United States citizen in 1946. She married William E. Ivey July 13, 1935. She retired from Sears in 1983 after 21 years of service and formerly worked at Marion General Hospital in the dietary department. Irene had been a member of Christland United Methodist Church since 1955 and was involved with the card ministry and the prayer chain for many years. She was also a member of Loyalty League, YMCA Senior Citizens, United Methodist Women and the Social Club at Cambridge Square. She solved crossword puzzles daily, enjoyed knitting, playing bingo, Euchre and other games with her friends. She was an avid Marion Giants basketball fan and Boston Red Sox fan.
Along with her parents, Lawrence and Lillian (Coley) Waitt, she was predeceased by her husband, William E. Ivey on Nov. 24, 1973; sisters, Doris Crabbe and Vera Potter; daughter, Norma Lowe; and grandchildren, Jane Marie Ivey, Patricia Gail Connors and Holly Ann Ivey. She is survived by daughter, Ethel and Charles Connors of Port Charlotte, Fla.; sons, Robert and Edith Ivey of Marion, Ind., David and Elda Ivey of Jonesboro, Ind., and Terry and Debra Ivey of Marion, Ind.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 North Baldwin Ave., Marion, Ind. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 20, at Christland United Methodist Church, 721 E. Charles St., Marion, Ind., with Pastor Russ Smith officiating.
