FORT FAIRFIELD - Hugh Murchison Jr., 83, husband of the late Marie V. (Bubar) Murchison, passed away Monday morning, May 21, 2012, at a Presque Isle health care facility, after a brief illness. He was born March 10, 1929, in Fort Fairfield, son of Hugh Sr. and Ethel (Amsden) Murchison. He attended Fort Fairfield schools and was married to Marie V. Bubar, Jan. 15, 1949. Hugh was a self-taught heating technician, having been employed for two years with Guy Belmain and Son, Fort Fairfield, and worked 20 years at M.C. Locke, Fort Fairfield, retiring in 1986 from L.B. Carter Heating, Caribou, however his greatest accomplishment was being a caregiver to his wife, Marie. Hugh was loved and respected by everyone whose lives he touched and his gentle disposition will be missed by many. He was a true family man and will be remembered as a wonderful and caring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, companion and friend. He greatly enjoyed his home and was an accomplished self-taught woodworker and carpenter, having completed many renovations and projects on his family home. Hugh was also an avid gardener and held a great sense of pride in his impeccably kept lawn and property. In addition to his parents, Hugh was predeceased by his beloved wife, Marie, July 31, 1996; two brothers, Coleman and William Murchison; and three sisters, Alta James, Myrtle Wilson and Elizabeth Flannery. He is survived by five sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffrey H. and Judy Murchison, Gregory E. and Deborah Murchison, Rick G. Murchison and Cee Ann Lovely, all of Fort Fairfield, Bayfield and Victoria Murchison of Hampden, and Shawn C. and Kim Murchison of Fort Fairfield; one daughter and son-in-law, Teen and Lance Klump of Rio Rico, Ariz.; 16 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his companion of several years, Cora Stewart, and her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Camille Saucier, all of Fort Fairfield. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield. The funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, May 24, at Celebration Center, 170 Houlton Road, Fort Fairfield, with the Rev. Mark Babin officiating. Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held immediately after the interment service at Veterans of Foreign Wars Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute in memory of Mr. Murchison to Celebration Center, P.O. Box 738, Fort Fairfield, ME 04742. Envelopes will be available at both the funeral home and church.
