SOUTHWEST HARBOR - Hilda L. Newman, 81, died peacefully Nov. 28, 2012, at Sonogee, Bar Harbor. She was born Feb. 24, 1931, in Frenchboro, daughter of Wallace L. and Lenora (Higgins) Lunt.

Hilda grew up on Frenchboro and was a member of Congregational Church, Frenchboro. She had to move off the island to attend Bar Harbor High School and graduated in 1948. She was a dedicated bookkeeper throughout her life. Hilda will be fondly remembered for her sense of humor, love of playing games and devotion to family.

She is survived by her partner, Norman Leach; daughter, Barbara MacPike and husband, Arthur, of Bar Harbor; grandchildren, Jason and Samantha Robinson; brothers, Carroll Lunt and wife, Hazel, of Bass Harbor, and Robert Lunt and wife, Earlene, of Ellsworth; brother-in-law, Thomas Newman and wife, Connie, of Southwest Harbor; a special niece, Linda Mitchell; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Hilda was predeceased by her husband, Keith Newman; and brother, Al Lunt.

Friends are invited to visit with the family 2-4 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, at Jordan-Fernald, 1139 Main St., Mount Desert.
