His cabs set his business apart as they were the first two-way radio vehicle system north of Bangor. The Ivey's owned and operated the successful taxi business for 17 years before it was sold. Entering the hospitality business in 1958, he and his wife, Marcinne, established Ivey's Motel, Bangor Road, Houlton. Through several expansions, the motel grew to 45 rooms, a full service restaurant, a lounge and weekly live entertainment. In 1985 they launched a second motel, Ivey's Motor Lodge, a full service hotel, at Interstate 95 in Houlton, across from the Tourist Information Center. As a local successful business family, they were proud to serve Houlton and the surrounding area for 55 years. He was a member of Monument Lodge of Masons No. 96 AF & AM, Aroostook Chapter Royal Arch Masons No. 20, St. Aldemar Commandry No. 17, Anah Temple Shrine and American Legion. He was also a member of Houlton Lodge of Elks No. 835.
