BANGOR - Helene F. Staples, 88, died Jan. 21, 2013, at a Bangor health care center. She was born April 15, 1924, in Brooks, daughter of LeRoy and Vera (Patterson) Staples.

Helene graduated from Morse Memorial High School, Brooks, and Maine School of Commerce, now Husson University. She was employed by the Joseph H. Fleming Co. for many years and retired from Dead River Forest Products Division after 23 years. Helene was a member of All Souls Congregational Church. She was also a life member of Tuscan Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and was a charter member of Credit Professionals International, serving in local and district offices. She was a former member of the advisory board of Retired Senior Volunteer Program and volunteered many years with Bangor Symphony Orchestra, from which she was awarded the Peters/Miller award for outstanding services.
Helene will be greatly missed by a special friend and confidant, Janet Ramsdell of Bangor; caring neighbors, Roger and Diane Theriault and their families, Myron and Mary Hale, and Kate Beale; and many other friends and acquaintances.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Dr. James L. Haddix, pastor and teacher of All Souls Congregational Church, Bangor, officiating. Spring interment will be at Pilley Cemetery, Brooks.
