GEORGETOWN, MASS. - Hector Valcarcel Jr., 48, formerly of Bangor, passed away Jan. 17, 2013, surrounded by his family at Merrimack Valley Hospice House, Haverhill, Mass. Born June 21, 1964, in New York City, Hector was the son of Esperanza "Hope" Santiago Rivera Valcarcel and the late Hector Valcarcel Sr.

Hector graduated from the Haverhill, Mass., Whittier Regional Vo-Tech, class of 1983 culinary arts program. He continued his education in culinary arts in Bangor at Eastern Maine Community College, and graduated with a degree in business administration, focusing on hospitality, at Husson University. He served as a consultant for Tastefully Simple for several years, and owned his own catering business, Ambrosia Catering. Hector served his community for many years in Bangor as a liaison at Bangor Area Recovery Network, and was a sponsor to many on their road to recovery.

In addition to his mother; stepmother, Rhonda Beaulieu; and his wife of none months, Robin Gariepy Valcarcel, Hector is survived by his sister, Ileana Valcarcel Moreira and husband, Olimpio, of Seabrook, N.H.; nieces, Ashley and Tasia; nephew, Ernani; stepdaughters, Justine and Shannon; stepsons, Anthony and Nathaniel; two grandchildren, Britney and Brady; and great grandson, Jensyn. Hector also leaves behind and is loved by many relatives and friends.

Calling hours will be 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, at Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main St., Haverhill, Mass. A celebration of Hector's life will be conducted June 22 when his ashes will be spread at Sabbaday Falls on the Kancamagus Highway in New Hampshire. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare of Maine, Bangor, or Merrimack Valley Hospice House, 360 Merrimack St., Building 9, Lawrence, MA 01843.
