BANGOR and CLIFTON - George J. Flemming Sr., 95, died peacefully May 27, 2012, in Bangor after a long illness of lung disease. He was born Nov. 17, 1916, in Houlton, son of George T. and Hattie (Graham) Flemming. George served his country in the U.S. Army, 152nd Field Artillery, in World War II from 1941 to 1945. Prior to his military service, he worked for Bangor & Aroostook Railroad. After the war, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier for more than 30 years. In addition to his parents, George was predeceased by his loving wife of 40 years, Selma (Cannan) Flemming; son, Gregory J. Flemming; brother, William P. Flemming; and sister, Bernece Nickerson. He is survived by a daughter, Sandra M. Gray and husband, Steven, of Clifton, and their children, Anthony Albert and wife, Sandy, of Buckfield, Leianna Spratt and husband, Shawn, of Clifton, Michael Shaw and family of South Portland, Amelia Gray of Bangor, Michelle Fowler of Orange City, Fla.; Greg's family, Beth Ann Gary, Tammy Jo Smart, George J. Flemming Jr.; sister, Gloria Barnes and husband, Carlton, of Bingham; 17 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; and his special friend, Ebony. Friends may visit with the family 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday, May 31, at St. Paul the Apostle, St. Mary's Catholic Church, 768 Ohio St., Bangor. Interment will be at Mount Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments after the interment at St. Mary's Catholic Church Parish Hall.
