ELLSWORTH and MANCHESTER, N.H. - Col. Frank Michael Mroz, MD, died unexpectedly July 25, 2013, at his residence in Ellsworth. He was born July 6, 1947. in Manchester, N.H., son of Joseph L. and Helen (Kwarciany) Mroz Sr.

Frank graduated from Boston University in 1969 and went on to Albany Medical School where he graduated in 1973. He went on to do his internship and residency at Wilford Hall Air Force Base, San Antonio. Frank did a fellowship in interventional radiology at Massachusetts General Hospital. He served 16 years in the U.S. Air Force, with another 16 years in the U.S. Army Reserves afterward. In 1978 Frank married Paula (Knittel) Mroz and began a 31 year career in a private radiology practice in Bangor. Frank was a philanthropist who supported many charitable organizations. He enjoyed a wide range of hobbies including traveling, photography and amateur radio operation. Frank had an engaging and expressive personality. He enjoyed all of his activities with great enthusiasm. His favorite place to be was with his family. Frank was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

In addition to his parents, Frank was predeceased by his sister, Nancy Mroz. He is survived by his wife, Paula (Knittel) Mroz of Manchester, N.H.; daughter, Katherine (Mroz) and husband, Joshua Kunn, and their son, Maxwell Kunn of Bangor; son, Matthew Mroz and wife, Jennifer, of Harrison; daughter, Caroline Mroz of New York City; and brother, Joseph Mroz of Manchester, N.H.

A funeral will be held 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. Relatives and friends may call 5 p.m. until time of service. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor, immediately after the service. Private interment with military honors will be held in Manchester, N.H. Condolences to the family may be expressed at
