HAMPDEN AND NEWBURGH - Frances Perry, 93, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012, surrounded by her loving family at her daughter and son-in-law's home. Frances was born Oct. 11, 1919, in Newtown, Conn., to Horace and Hazel (Hopkins) Smith.
She graduated from high school in Newtown, Conn., and briefly attended Bryant College, Providence, R.I., where she survived the Hurricane of 1938 that devastated that city. Frances served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the war she married Hiram Perry, also of Newtown, Conn. They raised their family in Suffield, Conn., moving to Maine in 1968. She enjoyed a rich, full life with her family, work and home. She worked until this fall at CMD Power systems in Hermon. She was the first employee her son hired and she trained each new office employee throughout the years. She particularly treasured the 15 years that she worked side by side with her granddaughter, Susan Marble.
Frances was predeceased by her husband, Hiram, in 2004. She is survived by her daughter, Judith Perry of Stamford, Conn.; daughter, Betsy and son-in-law, John Chapman, of Hampden; son, William and daughter-in-law, Cindy Perry, of Dixmont; and brother, Horace Smith of Mesa, Ariz. Frances was the extremely proud grandmother to William Perry of Brewer, Randall Adams of McLean, Va., Susan Marble of St. Albans, Carolyn Adams of Boulder, Colo., and Ann Marie Dean of Etna; and loving great-grandmother to Sean and Emma Marble, as well as Olivia and William Perry. Frances was happiest when surrounded by her family.
