BAILEYVILLE AND FOREST HILLS, N.Y. - Florent "Tib" Thibodeau, 85, passed away Sept. 5, 2012, in Manhasset, N.Y., after a brief illness. He was born in 1926, in St. Francis, and spoke French fluently.

He enjoyed telling stories about the old traditions of Acadian St. John Valley, spending time with his family and tinkering in his workshop. Florent had a long distinguished military career, serving in World War II with the Army and again in Vietnam with the Air Force. His life in the military took him to the Pacific Far East and each of the 50 states. He returned to Maine after his retirement from the Air Force, and worked for a security firm at Georgia Pacific paper mill in Baileyville, where he also dispatched the local police, fire and ambulance.

Florent was predeceased by his brothers, Ferdinand, Phillip, Louis and Benoit; and sisters, Rosalee and Annette. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, a son, a daughter, five grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

He was laid to rest Thursday, Sept. 13, at Long Island National Cemetery, Farmingdale, N.Y., by a seven-man Air Force military honor guard. Condolences may be expressed through his online guest book at www.obituaries.bangordailynews.com/obituaries/bdnmaine.
