MANCHESTER - Florence Constantine Wood, 89, died Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, with her family by her side, at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Center at Gray Birch. She was born Feb. 25, 1923, in Bangor, a daughter of the late Thomas and Vera (Budweitis) Prusaitis.

Mrs. Wood was a graduate of Bangor High School, class of 1941. In July 1944, Florence became certified as a nurse's aide for the American National Red Cross, Volunteer Special Services. She married John E. Constantine in April 1945, and celebrated their 25th anniversary in April 1970. In May 1946, she passed the U.S. Civil Service Exam for typist/stenographer. Mrs. Wood was a homemaker for many years while raising her daughters. Florence went to work at Eastern Maine Technical College after the death of her husband John, in 1970, where she met Ashley B. Wood Jr. and they were married May 28, 1976. Together they traveled to many destinations, such as China, Russia, Germany, Greece and Alaska.
She was predeceased by her first husband, John E. Constantine; and her second husband, Ashley B. Wood Jr. Mrs. Wood is survived by four daughters, Susan Jarrell of Portland, Bonny Cassily and her husband, Dennis, of Hooksett, N.H., Jill Ramage and her husband, Timothy, of Chelsea and Jane Drake of Manchester; a brother, Thomas Prusaitis of Bangor; a sister, Eleanor Scribner of Peabody, Mass.; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may visit 10-11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday. After cremation, burial will be held at the convenience of the family in Bangor. In lieu of flowers, due to the Constantine family's close ties to the Bangor Fire Department, the family requests that donations in Florence's memory be made to Hose 5 Fire Museum, 247 State St., Bangor, ME 04401 or Salvation Army, 65 South Park St., Bangor, ME 04401.
