MILBRIDGE - Evelyn B. Tibbetts, "Nanny/Nannie," 87, went peacefully to be with the Lord Dec. 7, 2012, surrounded by her loving family at her home. Evelyn was born June 2, 1925, in Cherryfield, daughter of the late Leroy and Lois Corliss.

In 1946 Evelyn married the love of her life, Gerald E. Tibbetts, who predeceased her May 5, 1981. She was employed for many years at Milbridge Elementary School as a cook with her lifelong friend, Vera Roberts. She also enjoyed wreathing, raking blueberries and packing eggs at Gays Dairy Farm. Evelyn was a lifelong resident of Washington County. Evelyn enjoyed sitting outside on her porch swing in the summer, walking in her gardens and bird watching. No family gathering was complete without her famous potato salad or apple pie. Evelyn was a devoted member of the Baptist church in Harrington.

Evelyn is survived by her children, Linda Beal and husband, Barney, of Milbridge, Sharon Trapp and husband, John, of Addison and Jerry Tibbetts and wife, Nancy, of Bar Harbor; her brother, Ernest Corliss of Milbridge; her sister, Hazel Anderson and her partner, Preston Smith, of Cherryfield; and her sister, Lillian Strout and husband, Alton, of Milbridge. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and special friends. Evelyn will be missed by her neighbor, Joanne Beal, who visited her faithfully every day bringing her the daily jumble; and by her dear friend, Rachel Leighton who she enjoyed going to Beano with. Rachel always knew when she needed a pick me up and they were always there for each other like true friends should be. Evelyn was predeceased by her granddaughter, Carrie Trapp, Aug. 16, 1989; her brothers, Roland Corliss and Earl Corliss; her longtime friend, Vera Roberts; the pea to her pod, Mona Rice; and her Beano buddy, Patty Phinney.
