ALTON - Etta I. Kidder, 97, went home to be with the Lord during the early morning hours of July 1, 2013. She was born Aug. 5, 1915, in Winter Harbor, a daughter of Arthur and Anna (Merchant) Torrey.

Etta spent her life caring for others and her home was a constant place of recovery and recuperation for various family members and her ability allowed many to stay at home despite declining health rather than go to a nursing home. She loved to knit and created many beautiful sweaters and stockings. She was a member of United Baptist Church of Old Town.
She is survived by a son, Malcolm Kidder and his wife, Evie, of Old Town; a daughter, Shirley Alexander of Alton; a grandson, Warren Kidder of Alton. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald in 1991; and sister, Glennis Chaples and her husband, Donald.
A celebration of her life will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, July 6, at United Baptist Church of Old Town, where friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of service. A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday at Pushaw Cemetery, Route 43, Hudson. Memorial contributions may be made to United Baptist Church, 86 Middle St., Old Town.
