GLENBURN - Desmond "Sonny" E. Howard, 82, passed away Aug. 5, 2012, at a Bangor hospital with his loving family by his side. He was born Sept. 17, 1929, in Glenburn, son of Frederick V. and Thelma (Alexander) Howard.

Sonny served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He loved to ride his motorcycle and nothing compared to a great ride. Sonny was a past member of Kenduskeag Masonic Lodge. He loved to putter around the house using his hands to make to make numerous things out of wood and was proud of a neat lawn. More than anything his family was his life and he was a loving and caring husband, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.

He is survived by his children, Fred Howard and wife, Cindy, JoAnn Clements and husband, Dale, all of Kenduskeag, David Howard and wife, Brenda, of Glenburn; a sister, Donna Rizzo of Bangor; his companion, Rita Shaw of Glenburn; grandchildren, Frederick, Starla, Jeremy and companion, Julie, Kristie and husband, Robert, Joshua, Derrick, Monica and husband, Ken, Nick and Adam; great-grandchildren, identical twins, Dashel and Paxton, Victoria, Andrew and Jericho. Sonny was predeceased by his wife, Maxine; and by a grandson, Matthew.

A graveside memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11 at Lakeview Cemetery, Glenburn, with Pastor Jack Dowling officiating. A service of Brookings-Smith, Bangor.
