SCARBOROUGH - Clyde A. Richards, 88, passed away Friday, May 11, 2012, at Maine Veterans Home, Scarborough. He was born in Dexter, a son of the late Westley and Mabel (Strout) Richards. Clyde served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired after 42 years of service as postmaster for the U.S. Postal Service. During his retirement years he was a freelance writer for local and national newspapers, and magazines. He was a former member of Dexter Kiwanis. He leaves behind his wife of 67 years, Clara (Messner) Richards of Scarborough; his three sons, Lawrence A. Richards and his wife, Jill Goldman-Richards, of Princeton, N.J., Robert C. Richards and his companion, Meg Keoppen, of Tucson, Ariz., and Dennis H. Richards and his wife, Patricia, of Gray; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Clyde was predeceased by his sister, Miriam Day; and his two dog companions, Butch and Sam. At Clyde's request, no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Maine Veterans Home, 290 U.S. Route 1, Scarborough, ME 04074. Arrangements are under the care of Jones, Rich & Hutchins, 199 Woodford St., Portland.
