CASTINE - Christine E. (Diettrich) Kilpeck, 64, passed away peacefully at home in Castine with loved ones by her side on June 23, 2014.
Christine was born in Boston on June 22, 1950 to the late Albert and Catherine Diettrich and was a graduate of Roslindale High. Formerly of Middleboro, Massachusetts, Christine worked for many years in the Bridgewater school system. Christine had a passion for life and fought a courageous and dignified battle against cancer until the very end, leaving behind her loving husband Robert (Bob) Kilpeck of Castine, Maine; her daughter Kelli A. Reed and husband Patrick of Norwell, MA; her sons Shawn P. Kilpeck and Neil R. Kilpeck and his wife Sherry of Middleboro, MA; and her most precious grandchildren Madeline Kelli Kilpeck, Meredith Jane Reed and Patrick Silas Reed. She is also survived by her sister Carolyn Mankowsky and her husband Robert of Quincy, MA; Stepfather Josh Fratus of Falmouth, MA; her dear aunt Ola Mae Chakaris and cousin Charles Chakaris of Novato, CA; cousins Dianne Maier of Bethany, OK, and Cynthia Vail of Marlboro, MA, and many cherished friends.
Christine's love of life shined through the sparkle of her eyes. She loved the outdoors and was happiest when working in her gardens or spending time with family and friends. She was an avid reader, who loved to cook and bring joy to others. She also loved the Penobscot Community School where she was the school secretary for the past eleven years. She was awarded 2012 Maine Principal's Association "Maine School Secretary of the Year."
She was a member of the Trinitarian Congregational Parish of Castine where she served as Chair of the Board of Deacons and Assistant Treasurer.
In keeping with her wishes, there will be no wake or funeral, however a Celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2014, at 1 p.m. at the Trinitarian Congregational Church located at 68 Main Street Castine, Maine.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Penobscot Community School, 66 N Penobscot Road Penobscot ME 04476. Please indicate that the donation is for the "CHRIS K-5K" which is an annual benefit race to honor Chris and all funds go toward Chris's Wish List to benefit the students of PCS.
The family of Christine Kilpeck will be forever grateful to the staff of the Blue Hill Memorial Hospital Oncology Department for their dedicated care and compassion.
