HAMPDEN - Charles "Chuck" McCabe, 59, died Nov. 9, 2012, after a lengthy illness. He was born April 21, 1953, in Boston, son of Charles P. McCabe Jr. and M. Geraldine (Flaherty) McCabe.

He was a graduate of Woburn High School, class of 1971. Chuck attended Lowell Tech and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in Connecticut. He married Doreen Ostanek and they celebrated 34 years of marriage this past August. Chuck worked 27 years with the Federal Aviation Administration as an air traffic controller in Norwood, Mass., and Bangor. He retired in 2009. A loving husband, father and friend, Chuck's generosity and devotion to all of those in his life was boundless. He enjoyed golfing and passionately followed his sports teams: the New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox, Celtics and Bruins. He liked to make occasional visits to Hollywood Casino, and trips to Bar Harbor, Camden and Florida. His other favorite activities included playing cards and pool with his friends, and going to the movies.

Surviving are his wife, Doreen; a daughter, Danielle and her boyfriend, Todd; two sons, Patrick and his girlfriend, Jackie, and Jim and his girlfriend, Renee; a brother, Michael and his wife, Ellen McCabe; a sister, Ellen and her husband, Jim Fitzgerald; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He will be sorely missed by his loyal canine companion, Casey. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by an infant sister, Mary. The family is deeply grateful to the quick and caring response by Hampden police and emergency medical technicians, the highly competent and compassionate staff at St. Joseph Hospital Emergency Room and Eastern Maine Medical Center Intensive Care Unit. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor.
