BANGOR - Charles Edwin Colburn, 90, husband of the late Elizabeth (Leeman) Colburn, died April 9, 2013, at a local health care center. He was born Aug. 5, 1922, in Bangor, son of Harry E. and Flora (Severence) Colburn.

Charlie was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a wellknown Mason and avid outdoor sportsman. He was active in masonry, where he held leadership positions for many years, including being a 60-plus year member of Rising Virtue Lodge No. 10, AF & AM, Bangor; a member of Mount Moriah Royal Arch Chapter No. 6; Bangor Council No. 5; St. John's Commandery No. 3; Grand Commandery of Maine; Scottish Rite Bodies and Anah Shriners. Charlie was also a member and past president of Penobscot Salmon Club.

Surviving are one daughter, Jane E. Helsley and her husband, Adam, of Bangor; three granddaughters, Bethanie, Kristin and Taylor; one brother, Paul S. Colburn of Bangor; nieces and nephews.

A Masonic funeral service conducted by the officers and members of Rising Virtue Lodge and other Masonic brethren will be held 1 p.m. Monday, April 15, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. Private interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery, Bangor. Those who wish to remember Charlie in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the Bangor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center Activities Fund, 103 Texas Ave., Bangor, ME 04401.
