BANGOR - Cecil A. Whitehouse, 90, husband of 68 years to the late Blanche (Clark) Whitehouse, passed away Jan. 7, 2013, at a Bangor health care facility. He was born Dec. 4, 1922, in Washburn, son of Herman and Carrie (Piers) Whitehouse, both of Wade Plantation, Washburn.

Pfc. Cecil served his country proudly in the U.S. Army Company 407th AAA Gun Battalion, during World War II, in Normandy, North France and Rhineland battles, returning home after 22 months of overseas duty. He began his employment with Fox & Ginn, Inc., Bangor, May 2, 1948, and retired from New England Teamsters and Trucking Industry in January 1982, after more than 30 years of dedicated service. He was the state of Maine's Truck Driver of the Year, featured in Time magazine for 1971, logging more than a million miles of accident free driving selected by the Highway Safety Specialists. Cecil was a longtime member of American Legion Post No. 84, Orono. He was an avid Red Sox fan, loved fishing, shooting pool, playing cards and could usually be found at the finish line in the grandstands at Bangor State Raceway. He was a truly devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather to his family.

He is survived by two sons, Jerry Whitehouse and wife, Linda, of Bangor, and Dennis Whitehouse and wife, Shirley, of Millinocket; daughter, Benita Burke of Holden; 10 grandchildren, Carrie Smith and husband, Brandon, Ryan Whitehouse and wife, Beth, Molly Jamieson and husband, Steve, Buffy Bingham and husband, Brad, Tyler Whitehouse, Andrew Whitehouse and wife, Erin, Craig Whitehouse and wife, Christy, Lori Curran and husband, Tom, Jeffrey Whitehouse and wife, Brianna, and Adam Burke and wife, April; and 15 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Glenna. The family thanks the staff and caregivers at the Maine Veterans Home for their passion and support given during a difficult time.
