HOULTON - Catherine Laurina (Gravel) Tomah, 83, died peacefully April 9, 2013, at Madigan Estates, Houlton. She was born May 24, 1929, in Stockholm, the daughter of Jean Baptitse and Catherine Isabelle (Michaud) Gravel.

Catherine was a communicant of Saint Mary of the Visitation Church. She was a foster mother for many years to more than 50 children.
Catherine is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Young and her husband, Larry, of Houlton; foster children, Donna Anderson and her husband, Jody, of Houlton, Billy and Donnie Crawford of Vermont and Debbie Crawford of Houlton; four grandchildren, Amanda Dwyer and her husband, Paul, of Michigan, Laura Holmes and Jeremy Young, both of Houlton, and Jason Young of New Hampshire; four foster grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; her brother, Jean Gravelle of Pennsylvania; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Paul Tomah; her daughter, Janice Ellis; her grandson, Darren Ellis; and 14 siblings.
Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday at Dunn Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday at Saint Mary of the Visitation Church with the Rev. David Raymond, celebrant.
