HOLDEN AND BANGOR - Barbara F. Smith, 79, died peacefully Sept. 13, 2012, at her residence in Holden. She was born Dec. 6, 1932, in Orono, the daughter of Harold and Mildred (Hopkins) Cunningham.

Barbara graduated from Orono High School, class of 1951, and from Eastern Maine General Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1954. She married her high school sweetheart, Lloyd Ingraham, Aug. 28, 1955, after his return from the Korean War. After a distinguished career she retired after 35 years from Department of Health and Human Services with the state of Maine as a health services consultant in 1993. When her children were going through the Bangor schools, she unsuccessfully ran for a school board position in the 1970s. Barbara loved to read and she will be dearly missed by her entire family.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Lloyd Ingraham, in 1975; a son, Gary Ingraham, in 2006; by a sister, Natalie; and a brother, Ray. She is survived by her children, Judith Brown, formerly of Bangor, now residing in Virginia Beach, Va., Allan Ingraham of San Diego, Janet Gaudet and husband, Paul, of Winterport and Phillip Ingraham of Holden; grandchildren, Hannah and Benjamin Brown, Jayne and Sam Gaudet and his wife, Allison, John and Justin Ingraham, Christopher and Jon Ingraham; a great-grandchild, Mason and several other great-grandchildren.

Friends are invited to gather with the family 5-7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where private funeral services will be held Monday, Sept. 17. Interment will be later at Pine Grove Cemetery, Bangor. Gifts in her memory may be made to CancerCare of Maine, Lafayette Family Cancer Center, care of Healthcare Charities, P.O.
