BANGOR - Arthur "Art" Liberty Jr., 74, died Jan. 17, 2013, at his home. He was born July 25, 1938, in Portland, son of Arthur G. and Mary A. (Chaisson) Liberty.

He was a graduate of Pennell Institute, Gray, class of 1956. Art worked for Greyhound Bus Co. for 28 years. He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Brewer. Art's fondest memories were of times spent during the past 50 years, hunting, fishing, playing pool, Texas Hold'em and telling stories at his camp in the Northern Maine woods.
He was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Sylvia Handelan; and a stepbrother, Jimmy Finney. Surviving are his beloved, devoted wife of 26 years, Sharon (Arasate) Liberty of Bangor; daughter, Michelle McAtee and her husband, Doug, of New Gloucester; sons, Keith Caven of Bangor, Scott Liberty and his wife, Olena, of New Gloucester and Randy Liberty of Gray; six grandchildren, Morgan, Connor and Bailey McAtee, Miekal, Cassie and Kylee Liberty; two great-grandchildren, Lilah and Alexyana; two brothers, Dan Liberty and his wife, Roxanne, and Michael Liberty; one sister, Deborah Liberty Robbins and her husband, Art; sister-in-law, Gail Liberty, all of Gray; stepbrother, Billy Finney of Gray; brother-in-law, Lou Arasate of Massachusetts; several nieces and nephews, and many very special friends. A special thank you to the Varney family for all they have done for Art and his family.
Relatives and friends are invited to call 5-7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22.
