DADE CITY, FLA. - Albin "Barney" Stanley Banis, 94, formerly of East Millinocket, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, in Dade City, Fla. Albin was born Jan. 31, 1918, in New Haven, Conn., to Stanley and Caroline Brugeite Banis. He was raised by his stepfather, John Gabranas.

He graduated from Schenck High East School in 1935. He apprenticed at Pratt and Whitney, Hartford, Conn., then worked as a machinist at Great Northern Paper Co., East Millinocket, retiring in 1978. Albin will be remembered for his love of the North Maine woods, passion for music, dancing and photography, intellect and relentless individualism, staying in shape, gifted wit and humor, and heart-warming smile.

He is survived by his son, Michael and wife, Emily Banis, of Zephyrhills, Fla.; daughter, Carolyn and husband, Richard Lenfest Sr., of Lee, Mass.; son, Timothy Banis of Hershey, Pa.; son, Randy Banis and wife, Kyra Sundance, of Leona Valley, Calif.; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; and sister, Anna Caron and husband, Gerald, of Millinocket. He was predeceased by wife, Yvette (Michaud) Banis, May 16, 1992; wife, Erma (Delano) Cobb Banis, Nov. 1, 1999; parents, stepfather; brothers, Felix Banis and Alfred Banis; and sister, Bernice. The family thanks Edwinola Retirement Community for their compassionate care for Albin.
