BANGOR - William "Bill" T. Meucci, 86, passed away peacefully May 8, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Nov. 11, 1926, in Hartford, Conn., son of Domonic "Tony" and Marjorie Meucci.
He graduated from Bangor High School, class of 1946. He served as assistant section leader and section leader in the U.S. Maritime, 1944-1945, and entered the U.S. Navy
in 1946 to serve our country in the Atlantic and Mediterranean. When he returned to Maine he attended Husson College and graduated in 1947 with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration. Bill began his career at Sears and Roebuck and worked for them, 1947-1967. In September 1967 he purchased Family Fun Bowling Center, which is still a family owned business. He was an entrepreneur buying, renovating and renting apartment houses and at one time had more than 100 apartments in the area. He was part of Hogan Road Associates, which helped develop the land which is now occupied by Varney's Auto Sales and the former World Over Imports. In 1995, he purchased the old Footman's building in Brewer, creating State Street Plaza with 12 build to suit suites. He was on the board of Maine Merchants Association for 21 years, during that time he served as president for two years. He also served on the board of directors for United Bank for 17 years, president of Bangor Jaycees, St. Mary's Catholic Holy Name Society and he did a lot of charity work for United Way through the Jaycees, and was awarded outstanding member. He was instrumental in helping build the infirmary as well as the public information and press building at the University of Maine, 1966-1969. He was a fourth degree member of the Pine Cone Council Knights of Columbus and was named outstanding man in Bangor by both Knights of Columbus and Kiwanis.
Bill dedicated his life to providing for his family; he was a hard worker, working seven days a week, rarely taking a vacation. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Elizabeth "Betty" (Davis) Meucci; three sons, Andy Meucci and wife, Pam, of Bangor, Tim Meucci and wife, Gloria, of Bangor, and Steven Meucci and wife, Sheri, of Winthrop; he was lovingly known as "Papa" to his six grandchildren, Domonic, Merico, Angelina, Katrina, Mario and Antonio; two great-grandchildren, Emily and Tanner; two brothers, Tony and Louie Meucci; sister, Lee Bond; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by sister, Mary MacDonald. A special thanks to Bill's sister-in-law, Nancy Gonzales and husband, Fai, for their love and support they have given. The family also expresses a sincere thank you for the outstanding care provided by the staff at the Lafayette Cancer Center and Ross Manor.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call 5-7 p.m. Monday, May 13, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 14, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Mary's Catholic Church, 768 Ohio St., Bangor. Interment will be at Mount Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, Bangor. A reception will be after at St. Mary's Parish Hall.
