MACHIASPORT - Roger Foss, 74, died peacefully with his daughter Cindy and her husband, Tom, by his side, on Jan. 28, 2014. He was born Feb. 16, 1939, to Alexander and Viola (Ackley) Foss.
He was a beloved father, brother, grandfather. Roger grew up in Machiasport. In his younger years, he rode his big, white pig back and forth to school. He unselfishly left school after the ninth grade to help the family make ends meet. Later, he was very honored to serve in the army

. In the following years he worked hard digging clams, was a mechanic and ran a business buying and selling seafood. Roger enjoyed hunting, fishing, and loved the ocean. He held a special place in his heart for animals and couldn't help but feed any who came begging. He had friends statewide and beyond. When he knew his end was near, he wanted to see his friends at the Legion one last time. He did not have the time to make that last visit but was thinking of his friends to the end.
